Minnesota Metro Fastpitch League
Open Letter to Umpires PDF Print E-mail

Fellow Umpires:

With the recent votes in the Suburban and Tri-County leagues this winter, it appears that there will be a significant reduction in the number of metropolitan teams registering to play Amateur Softball Association (ASA) softball during the summer of 2010.

As a result of these votes, I have been asked by the Suburban League and the Minnesota Metro Fastpitch (MMFL) Elite League to assign umpires for the teams and invitational tournaments that registered with the North American Fastpitch Association (NAFA).

In order to effectively meet the requests of the Suburban League and the MMFL Elite League, David Quehl and I have chosen to establish the Suburban Umpires Association (SUA) in an effort to efficiently supply informed, insured, and qualified umpires for fastpitch softball games.

My intent has always been to take care of umpires.  If a large majority of the games this summer will not include ASA registered teams, our ability to umpire ASA sanctioned games will be even more reduced.  It is my goal to keep umpires informed, keep umpires insured, and keep umpires on the field.  If you would like the opportunity to work as much as you would like this summer—and without restriction—please be open to attending an organizational meeting at the Hopkins VFW on Monday, March 29, 2010, at 7:00 pm.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Yours in softball,

John Dorfner
